Moneyball – One Of The Best Movies Of 2011

The movie Moneyball is certainly one of the best exciting movies of the year and I won’t be surprised if the movie manages to grab some Oscars too. Both Brad Pitt and Jonah are world known for their versatile acting tactics and work in the movies and they both have given their best in Moneyball too. The director Bennett Miller has added in this action movie a twist of emotions making it a unique movie in itself. You can simply call Moneyball movie a baseball movie just you one would called ‘The Social Network’ movie a facebook movie. The movie gives a lesson to us and puts the general story of every common man who plays games with the life and on the way how he doesn’t even feels shameful for the blatant excuses he makes.

In the movie the general manager of Oakland’s A i.e. Billy Beane succeeds in putting together a baseball team on good budget with the use of computer based analysis to draft players in the club. In the starting, Beane finds it hard to win because the rich Yankees are strong to be defeated but then later he brings out the geek in his body to get over the Yankees and wins the game.

Moneyball – The Plot

The script of the movie is written by the Oscar winning personality Steven Zaillian and Aoron Sorkin who also wrote the script for the Social Network. Beane manages his two very complex relationships- one with his ex-wife and the other with their daughter. All this while he also focuses on the strategy of winning over Yankees. With so much to handle in the movie, no actor apart from Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise could have played the character successfully. This is why they chose Brad and boy what a wonderful work he had done in the movie!

Thanks to the cinematographer Wally Pfister, the atmosphere in the movie is good enough to give a sense of friendliness. The same cinematographer has showed marvelous in the movie The Dark Knight too.

Basic story of Kung Fu Panda 2

The mighty fighters Po, Monkey, Tigress, Crane, Mantis and Viper are sent on an adventurous mission of saving the world and the entire China from the evil plan of peacock Lord Chen. However, before all of them could do that, the affable panda Po must find his inner peace and also get his answers buried in the past.

Kung Fu Panda has gained accolades and love from the people for its unique movie recipe which comprises of action, humor, love, care and all the possible emotions that you could think of. All this is incorporated in the movie while making no compromise with the lightness of the movie. The prequel was a success in itself. Kung Fu Panda 2 – A GREAT Family Movie

Kung Fu Panda 2 is an excellent movie to be watched with friends and family. The movie is certainly family friendly. I (as like many others) typically like the character Po for his unique persona consisting of gallantry, humility and a great sense of humor. If you have already watched the previous movie of the series, you must be already knowing about this adorable panda. And if you loved the previous movie, you are sure to love this one as well.

In this movie the secret of Po’s adoption by the goose is revealed. You will see how Po entered into the life of his caretaker Goose in the movie. What happens is that Po asks Master Shifu the reason for his peace and satisfaction and Master Sjifu then tells him to find inner peace. It was then Po realizes the fact how can a panda be a son of goose? He then rushes to his father goose and asks him the reason. Then as Po is finally brought to the reality of his adoption, he goes away to the mission. In the end, to defeat the evil peacock he finds his inner peace and finds the love for his father goose in his heart.

Kung Fu Panda 3D

The movie is shot in 3D which is certainly a highlight of the movie. However, as many of the action packed movies flaunt of the 3D tag to garner viewers but don’t pay much attention to the emotions and story of the movie, Kung Fu panda is different. The story line is very touching, especially when eventually Po realizes that even though he was adopted, he has still got the best dad of the entire world. Apart from all these emotions, the light tint of humor makes the movie more interesting. I personally will label it as a “must watch movie, if you can watch it with kids. I am sure you will never regret spending your time and money on this one.

Final Destination 5 Plot

The story is based on a group of friends who are trying to escape from death. A turning point is when they face fate when a suspension bridge collapses while they are walking on it. They are told by a mysterious coroner that no one can try to cheat on earth. But unfortunately, one by one the survivors meet their respective brutal ends. The cast of movie includes Nicholas D’Agosto which is in lead, then there is Emma Bell and Arlen Escarpeta. The director of movie is Steven Quale. So undoubtedly the story is based on pure horror. The movie is purely kitsch with the celebration in it looking like carnival of death. But they have faith among the gore patrons. Once again like the prequels this movie primary focuses on how death can strike with different sundry ways. And there is a fact that one of the youngsters Nicholas D’Agosto is prescient and can foresee all the tragedies that hardly reduces the misery of the group. Each member of the group nevertheless unfortunately faces a gruesome and unpredictable death.

Yes, the movie is thrilling but I would suggest going to the movie with as few friends as possible, or even better is to rather watch it at your home instead. There are many screaming and shouting points in the movie and you certainly would not love all this stuff distracting your attention in the theatre.

There is a hint of light humor in movie which keeps the mood balanced. After all, too much gore could be overwhelming. As a matter of fact, you could be actually seen laughing out guts out at some points of the movie too.

If you are newbie to the Final Destination movie series then this is one is worth watching for and I personally recommend it. You won’t need the knowledge of the previous movies storylines to enjoy this one. You will surely love the insanity and the devilish creativity on the large screen nevertheless. If you have a girlfriend then do go with her for watching this one. You will get a lot of hugging and hand grabbing during the movie.

Melodrama In The Film

I am not the kind who really likes action films with so much melodrama. The trailers were all about making this a big fight for Spiderman; mind you, there are three baddies this time. There is Sandman, the ex-convict Flint Marko who has a body full of sand and is able to shift shapes. There is Venom, Peter Parker’s rival photographer Eddie Brock, whose powers are ruled by an alien symbiotic. Yet, the biggest villain of all turns out to be none other than Peter himself.
That is right. Peter falls prey to the symbiotic first and becomes rather vengeful and vigilant. He lashes out his teenage frustrations at everyone. It is a killer edge in the entire script. And though it ensures some really long moments in the film, it helps us to see the actor beneath Tobey McGuire.

Work Of Actors

The actor impresses us with his new-found maturity and sensibility. James Franco is also impressive as Harry Osborne. He is equal of any regular villain facing the Spiderman. These performances really help us to be involved in the film’s proceedings, lengthy as they are. Among the villains, Thomas Haden Church plays Marko and does it plainly. Alas! We could have got a better performance from this talented actor. Still, it is good that he does not have much to do in the film anyway.

The previous two Spiderman movies were about the beginnings of the superhero myth. Spiderman 2 was mostly a tedious affair with the action cut short by drama and romance. Some of it is there in Part 3 as well. However, the audiences can grace the stunning action scenes well. The fight between Spiderman and Sandman inside the underground tunnel is particularly spectacular and immersive. The finale is a bit tedious but also spectacular. These scenes really keep the viewer gripped. There is a bit of the issue with the drama and romance as well. But for most of time, the Spider senses are really terse and tense.

I would not refrain from giving much high praise to this film. Yeah, Spiderman was a big bore and so was Spiderman. Spiderman has some really great action scenes. However, some part of the movie is a bit like a video game. There is little complexity to the villains. It is as if they only want to acquire special powers to beat Spiderman. But that nasty twist in the tale was really cool. It showed that Spiderman is a human being after all. So, for that and the effects, I would gladly give it 7 out of a score of 10.

Fairy Tale Base

Charming Characters

The film is blessed with many charming characters. These characters are derived from the famous folk and fairy tales of our childhood. However, Shrek and Fiona’s romance is the central theme. On one hand is the green ogre, who makes a mess when he tries to be good. The other is the beautiful Fiona, who hides a secret. Will this secret disrupt the romance between the two? The chemistry fits in perfectly. Mike Myers voices Shrek while Cameron Diaz voices Fiona. The two stars lend their charisma to their computer-generated characters. Their charisma shows in all the scenes between them.

The animation is also good. This is usual coming from the reliable DreamWorks Team. The scenarios of the classical age are rendered with sharp detail. The forests also look ethereal and green. The scene, where the Dragon and Shrek fight it out, is really worth watching. However, what really amazes us is the story. The romance is endearing. There are humorous tiffs between Shrek and Donkey. There is also a nice twist to the normally romantic tale. Such things come in good measure. This is why Shrek looks so balanced in comparison to other films. The songs will also look good as they play on the background.

The film comes off as a brilliant and witty romantic comedy. The familiar struggles for a happy ending will also seem very fantastic. This feeling of wonder is one of the best things of this movie. Also, there is one character worth discussing. This is the talkative Donkey. It is voiced by the famous Eddie Murphy. The Donkey really amuses us with his wisecracks. Shrek is thus a movie that has something for every viewer of every age. It is a film that deserves to be seen. I would give it a full 10 on 10.

After Kung Fu movies, rom-coms and fairytales, western movies seem to have caught the fancy of some of people at Hollywood’s animation department. Rango, a film with a name inspired by the cult-classic Django, seems like a Tarantino and Robert Rodriquez dig on the genre itself. The titular hero is a slimy chameleon, who wanders his way into an old town on the frontier. As he goes on a spree of looting and other exploits, he also becomes a hero to this town of iguanas and other fabled creatures.

Story Line of Rango

Surely, there is nothing new in this story. The marketing campaign seems to be all about this being Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski collaboration. They had teamed up in the successful Pirates of the Caribbean series. Depp has voiced Rango and his character, like that of Jack Sparrow, is given many thrills and tongue in cheek exploits to do. He does them surely but Verbinski also has roped in other actors playing distracting creatures. One could explain why Rango has little depth to his persona. Even Jack Sparrow had the cocky charm and foolhardy. Rango merely seems like a bland, computer generated projection of Depp’s inherent style and wackiness.

Reviews Talking

Most of the Rango movie reviews are talking about how beautiful the film really looks. It does indeed. Verbinski has always been making films with pomp and splendor. The settings, reminiscent of Leone and John Ford classics, are rendered with stunning detail. The smartly choreographed action sequences unfold on the sun and sand. The duels and cocked pistols are there as well. My favorite scene is one where Rango walks inside a bar and the camera pans the wide-eyed people drinking from cups and glasses. It is truly monumental given how much detail goes into it.

And it is regrettable how little comes out of it. Yeah, I found it beautiful, entertaining and thrilling. But I also found it to be rather unoriginal and a film that tries too hard. I mean, Tarantino and Rodriguez have also taken digs at Western movies. But they have also given smart-ass lines and original plot movements to deliver the punch. Verbinski seems to be making a film on their lines. It is a filmy spoof on all the famous Western films but it is little beyond it. Through it all, it is only a story or a regular hero fighting a battle with ordinary villains.

I would also like to say something about Chinatown. A bit of Rango seems to be inspired by this noir classic. Rango seems to be involved in a water shortage problem. Yet, this take, clever as it is, only makes the film hollow and uninspiring. Yeah, okay, the animals are great fun, given they are voiced by people like Ned Beatty and Alfred Molina. Yeah, all those digs at the duels and dialogues seem to be entertaining.

However, this could have been a much better film with a greater emotional core. After all, Western films were not just about duels, ranches and rowdies.

That is what I would advise the general audience in my Kung Fu Panda movie review. Kung Fu Panda is packed with thrills, spills and gags. There are animals as well who fight as well as crack jokes. But as Oogway would agree, such randomness makes it so funny and thrilling.

The Hero Figure

The eponymous hero is a lumbering, butter fingered panda. He is raised by a flimsy crane, which runs a noodle restaurant. Jack Black voices this unlikely hero with the trademark cheek and goofy charm. It is hard not to be amused with this character’s pratfalls. As he messes up with the bowls of soup and pants when hurrying up the thousand stairs to the Jade Palace, we laugh earnestly. Yet, we know it is not long when this well-intentioned but clumsy creature will emerge as grand hero.

Directors Mark Osborne and John Wayne Stevenson choose to tread upon a predictable path. Believe me, this is a story that has been told a dozen times, and not only in Hollywood. Yet, most of the times, it has been messed up by how incredulous it has been. I mean, it is indeed rare that we actually side up with the underdog yearning to be a hero. Kung Fu Panda hits it pretty close.

What Makes The Movie Inspiring?

What makes this movie so positively enthralling and awe-inspiring is how confident it is.  It is never in the urge to digress into melodrama. The film tells the predictable story with a neat balance. On one hand, the film revels in its laughs and ground-breaking action set pieces, which grips us to the spectacle. On the other hand, Po’s rise and bare beginnings are truly believable. The film elicits wolf-whistles and cries of joy whenever Po kicks butt or gulps up noodles and dim-sums. Yet, it never forgets the emotional core of the story. This is why we feel genuine delight and wonder as the film progresses.

And there is the action to behold as well. Well, there are times, when it seems to be lifted from numerous Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and even the Matrix movies. Yet, rather than just for the thrill, the action scenes fit in well to the story. This is a familiar story but the set pieces do knock out your senses with how fast and furious they are.

The supporting cast is mostly a cast of loveable creatures. Dustin Hoffman lends a classy and fatherly tone to Master Shifu’s tough as nails presence. Angelina Jolie steps in to give voice to charming Kung Fu warrior, known as Tigress, and her ambitions as well. But eventually, it is Po who is the real hero. We yearn for him to return and fight the baddies with his own clumsy and obese ways. Believe it, it really rocks!

Hancock is one of the latest films that question the very origins of the superhero genre. Not that it does so in any positive way. 2005’s Batman Begins was seen as a film that stayed conventionally faithful to the comic book origins, yet broke ground with its deadpan storytelling. Hancock seems to have a smart and really clever premise. But does it really deliver?

Blend of special effects and melodrama
I saw Hancock the other day and, to be honest, found it be the usual blend of special effects and melodrama. This is quite regrettable, given that the story has so much promise. Will Smith is John Hancock, a down-on-his-luck superhero. What Hancock has in his supernatural powers, he sorely lacks in his social skills. He makes a mess when saving lives.

The Beginning…

It is quite fun when it begins. Hancock is not just a troubled vigilante with more power than responsibility. He is simply a guy who does not care. Smith plays Hancock with his usual laidback charisma. He pouts out lines and carries himself with a give-a-damn attitude. Yeah, the guy amuses us. But that is it.

The Problem Begins

The problems begin with the entry of publicist Ray Embrey (played by TV star Jason Bateman) Embrey takes the irksome task of helping Hancock become a better person. It could have been a really smart twist in the tale. However, it is also quite hollow. Does an arrogant and ill-mannered superhero really need a publicist to get on the right track? It could have been more interesting if Hancock’s change would have happened by his own conscience.

Even I did not mind that. But writers Vince Gilligan and Vincent Ngo end up making the film unnecessarily complicated. There is some regular babble about the myths behind superheroes. This happens when Hancock meets Ray’s wife Mary (Charlize Theron) who is a superhuman herself.

So, here the film becomes messy. The two encounter themselves to discover that they are revered beings. Does it sound a bit like M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable? There are other twists as well. There are also the routine hostage hold-ups and messy situations. These seem to be crammed up into the script just when everything runs dry.

Peter Berg, who is best known for the TV series and film Friday Night Lights, directs the story with an immediate approach. The urgent, bleak images lend a sense of tension to the action scenes. However, the rest of the film seems to be directed with a mechanical style. This makes it quite drab and dull. It is only the initial daftness that entertains and thrills. Even the final fight scenes seem to be rather predictable.
As for the actors, the only scene stealer, other than Smith, seems to be Bateman. He plays his role with genuine conviction. True, his character is an indulgence. But Bateman plays it naturally while not pretending it to be smart or too clever. Hancock is a film that impresses in bits. However, it is a disappointment on an overall scale.

The story then unfolds where Dre falls in love with a girl who is from his own school and who is a very good violinist. However, some of his schoolmates do not like him approaching the girl. They attack Dre with all the martial art techniques that they are aware of hurting Dre severely. Dre then goes home and feels bad for what has happened. The next day the same group of boys attempt to attack Dre once again, this is when Jackie Chan who plays the role of Mr. Han comes to Dre’s rescue and promises to teach him Karate.

The story then unfolds as to how Jaden Smith learns the importance of discipline in any one’s life. We are taken into this world of martial arts where Mr. Han gets seriously involved in teaching Dre the art of Karate. The sequences that have been shot for this movie reflect the culture and heritage of China. A scene that has been shot at the “Great Wall of China” is the highlight of the movie. There are a number of other locations where this movie has been shot which are of great cultural significance and that keeps the audience captivated throughout the movie.

The specialty of the movie is the delicate balance that has been maintained all throughout the movie amongst action, drama and love. It is very easy to get all these emotions mixed up with one another but the director Harald Zwart has been able to do a fantastic job of managing the balance correctly.

The Karate Kid movie has also been able to portray in a very elegant and efficient manner the aspect of martial arts and its importance in the Chinese culture and heritage. Dre which is the role played by Jaden Smith is a role around which the entire film revolves. It showcases the emotional, the vengeance and the drama aspects. The Karate Kid also boasts of some fantastic work done in the field of cinematography which is essential for it success. The credit goes to Roger Patt who has been able to depict the beautiful heritage of China in the most elegant and passionate manner.
